Terrazzo - testimony to sustainable architecture
More and more architectural practices are aiming to use environmentally friendly building materials.
It is safe to say that, terrazzo is the first ‘green’ flooring material. At InOpera Group we can help you to achieve sustainable design results by customising the aggregates in the terrazzo.
Terrazzo was originated in the 15th century Northern Italy when workers of the local marble quarry bagged the crumbs of their work and mixed the chips with mortar to make faux stone floors for their terraces.

Today terrazzo is composed of marble, recycled glass, plastic or seashell chips, set in a cement or resin binder. Terrazzo finishes are evaluated on their environmental value, factoring in elements such as materials longevity, recycled contents and ease of maintenance. The material also brings together design flexibility, timeless aesthetics and durability.
Precious stones can be used as aggregates too
If you’re an architect or designer and looking to achieve a ‘green’ result for your next project, you can do so by selecting the proper aggregate for your terrazzo surfaces. This can include post-consumer or post-industrial recycled glass, porcelain, concrete, as well as decorative marble or even plastic.
InOpera Group can readily supply materials directly from factories where they process a wide variety of aggregates.
With a stock of aggregates readily available, we can help architects to choose the best possible ingredients for your design and project.
