This Victorian terraced house in South London, has been extended at the rear and given a new layout on the interior. With a sequence of compelling interior spaces, the home now has a distinct character and coherency throughout. Terrazzo was specified to give the house this unified feel throughout the different spaces and surfaces. Bureau de Change achieved this with their carefully selected colour palette and use of terrazzo.
In the new layout, the ground floor is divided over three levels, comprising the kitchen, dining space and lounge. For each space, they decided to work with different varieties of terrazzo so they could have their own character, whilst subtly tying them all together. The whole design required a holistic approach and features many different shades and varieties of terrazzo. The floor palettes are neutral then colours are intensified in other areas such as the green marble terrazzo of the staircase, and the red and black shades of the kitchen island.
To create a smooth transition from inside to outside, the terrazzo extends into the garden and forms cascading planters. The terrazzo surfaces are integral to the new design for the house, adding colour, harmony and character but also feeling playful and practical.
